Hello, and here are my week 1 line and shape tasks. I had fun with the shape seekers so I did a few.

Hi Reyna,

Thanks for submitting the tasks!

Shape Seeker

I don’t have all the reference for the shape seeker, so I’ll go on the cat on to start with.

It seems like you found the outline shape of a Cat, which is fine, and still beneficial to helping you see the subject more clearly. The goal of this process is to seek he most basic shapes within the image and build up the drawing on top of the shapes we find, maintaining the relationships such as, distance between the edges, proportions and so on.

We can use each shape as measuring points so when we have all the core shapes down accurately within the image, we can place our lines correctly over the top.

Please see my quick demo how I approached drawing that cat.

Block In

You did a nice job with the drawing, and took some initiative with the thumbnail, and also divided the image into sections. This is good practice.

The image you chose doesn’t have many heavy shadows so it’s really hard to use the block in approach here.

The block in method is to seek out the shadow areas, so to demonstrate I condensed the values on your image and showed you an example how you could approach blocking in the shadows in the future.

I guess we have to make a decision on the best method when approaching drawing a subject… If it has deep shadows, perhaps the blockin method works best, as the shadows really define the subject already.

If there aren’t many shadows (like this image) I would have used the shape seeker method, like I did with the cat.

But your drawing is good nonetheless and used some technical method which you definitely continue to utilise… dividing up the page into rectangles is commonly used by artists, but you could break the image down even further for greater accuracy by adding in more technical methods.

Keep pushing, I think you'll benefit from the next tutorial a lot on Shading!

I look forward to seeing you stuff on Perspective! :)

Thank-you for your thorough opinion, I see that I have done the shape seeker incorrectly. I will be fixing and resubmitting that soon. I appreciate you taking the time to do the draw overs of the cat and the man. I can see what I need to practice and improve on. Learning the process is very exciting because I haven't taken a drawing class before; so thanks for making this course possible.
